Posing Guide For Women | For Models and Photographers

Updated: Feb 26, 2022

by Arturo Rivo Jr. I love portrait photography and majority of my subjects are women and families. In this short blog, I will be sharing some tips with you to make your women portraits better by making your poses better. For models and photographers. 1. Don't pose straight and avoid hiding body parts as much as possible. It will make your portraits dull. Curve your body into S-shape to emphasize on body shape. This can make your model look sexy.

2. Don't slouch. When doing a sitting pose, straighten your back and pose your legs not to cover each other.

3. Don't press your arms to your body. This will make your arms look bigger on side view and will make it look shorter on front view. Give it space away from your body.

4. Don't over chin down. This tip depends on the model. Some models tend to show double chins when chinning down and some can make their face look fat and neck shorter. The best way is to project your face outward. This may seem weird but on the front view, the face will look slimmer and the jaw line more visible.

5. Don't lean on the wall straight. Be creative. Use your butt, legs, arms, or even your head to lean on that wall to make your poses more creative and interesting

6. Look for the model's beauty angle. Some models may have a better side for portrait. Some may look better on the right than on the left. It depends.

Model: Camille There is no right or wrong in photography but if you want your photography to stand out, be creative. Do what is "not common". Experiment with angles. For models, be confident. Confidence show in portraits. Practice in front of the mirror so you can have an idea what you look like while posing. For photographers, make your models feel comfortable. Making the photoshoot fun can help a lot. Be friendly and most of all respectful. Don't pressure your models escpecially if they are beginners. Be a good director. There are so many things to learn about portrait photography posing. Explore and learn. Experience is the best teacher. Enjoy photography!!
